Full Set Browsing Research Started

Browsing, a fascinating alternative to 'advanced search', currently has its limitations regarding data set size and performance. CQ2 has started research and implementation of 'Full Set Browsing', based on Meresco Core, that has no such limitations at all. The first test are very promising!

OpenER-OAI 1.0 Released

OpenER-OAI 1.0 has been released on SourceForge. This Meresco-Core-based software extracts Dublin Core and LOM records from EduCommons RSS-feeds and serves these records as an OAI-repository.

CQ2 has started rewriting the MERESCO Core OAI-PMH component into a set of smart components that learn about OAI sets and metadataprefixes from the data being fed to it.

Meresco Core: RSS Reader added

MERESCO Core has been extended with an RSS Reader component. The RSS Reader periodically reaps RSS feeds and feeds the contents to MERESCO Core. In combination with the new Storage version 5 and the recently added OAI-PMH components, an RSS feed can be turned into a fully compliant OAI-PMH data provider.

Performance well over 50 QPS

Initial tests showed that out-of-the-box Meresco offers well over 50 queries per second (almost 70) on commodity hardware.
